Seeing as this is my first official blog, I assume an introduction of sorts is in order. I’m Katherine. I’m 19 years old and growing every moment. I live in Central California. No, that is not the part with the movie stars and the mansions— it’s the part with the cows and the cornfields. I attend college at one of America’s most beautiful campuses, nestled in one of America’s most miserable cities. Seriously. Google it.
“I take comfort in the knowledge that I can always become a better and more whole version of myself, regardless of what my world becomes.”
This quote is, in large part, why I find myself here. I wrote this nearly three years ago in one of my college application essays and rediscovered it only recently. Though it is somewhat unconventional to take advice from my younger and more naïve self, it seems that I was on to something back then. The very notion that I alone am responsible for my growth as a human being is what drives me to write today. I hope that this blog will afford me the opportunity to finally get a few of my thoughts out of my head and into reasonably well-articulated sentences. I welcome the input of others though I hardly expect them to be the least bit interested in what I have to say.
What kinds of things should we expect to find in entries to come? I’ll be honest—your guess is as good as mine. If I were the betting kind, I would put money on plenty of quips about the oddities of my world and a hearty helping of geeky indulgences. If I were the optimistic kind, I would plan on thought-provoking discussions and appropriately youthful silliness. I genuinely intend this blog to be one of the most honest projects I have ever taken on, so at the very least, I suppose I can look forward to learning a little bit more about who I am.
