Forever a freshman

Is it meaningful, notable, or simply coincidental that many of the things I feel define me today are things that began during my freshman year of high school? I became a vegetarian in February of 2005 and I’m, well, still a vegetarian. I also switched from contacts back to glasses in spring of 2005 and that seems to be one of my most defining physical characteristics. I rediscovered my love for Harry Potter that year and the effect those stories have had on me is much better lived than described.

Sure, a lot of things have changed since then. I’m nearly 50% older and hopefully as much wiser; people, things, and feelings have come and gone. But I do like the fact that I’ve finally lived just enough to have settled into at least a few opinions and habits. Even though I constantly dream of big changes to who I am, where I am, and what I’ll become, I’d be quite satisfied if, at the end of the day, I’m still a bespectacled Ravenclaw (with a fondness for meatless cuisine).
